In 2022, Harika*, a curious 4-year-old, took her first steps into the Beacon Learning Center (BLC). Holding her mother’s hand tightly, she entered the classroom with nervousness and excitement, little knowing that this would start a life-changing journey for the family. Harika is a cheerful and enthusiastic learner who actively participates in class. She completes her homework on time, eagerly asks questions, and readily interacts with her teachers.

Living in a tiny 56-square-foot home, Harika’s family encountered countless obstacles. Her father works tirelessly as an office delivery boy, while her mother is a homemaker. The family struggles daily due to the lack of proper sanitation and healthcare. The streets are littered with trash, and the air is filled with the smell of garbage, adding to the community’s overwhelming concerns. Despite their struggles, they held onto their dreams of a brighter future for their daughter, Harika, and ensured she received an education.

During the initial health assessment at BLC, Harika was diagnosed as clinically malnourished. In India, malnutrition affects over 33 lakh children, particularly in states like Maharashtra, Bihar, and Gujarat.1 While she received hearty, nutritious meals at our BLC like all our children, her condition required additional support. Our medical team provided nutritional supplements, offered diet counselling for her family, and closely monitored her health.

Her mother, once a timid homemaker, found her voice and purpose as a Community Intern at Vision Rescue. Thanks to the encouragement and support she received from our Community Case Counsellor (CCC), she overcame her fears of public speaking and embraced her role with newfound confidence. She now assists our community workers in organizing awareness workshops and mobilizing people to attend them. Today, her earnings not only support the family but also relieve financial stress for her husband.

Harika’s mother is overwhelmed by Vision Rescue’s support in empowering her and her daughter. The transformation in Harika and her family would not have been possible without your support and unconditional investment in their lives. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the generous donors who have contributed to and made a significant difference in their lives. Thank you, dear donors, for your invaluable support!
