Hira and Ravi got married and moved away from their family in search of a better life for them and their children. However, when the pandemic struck, Ravi lost his job. With no financial support from their family members, it became a challenge to pay for groceries and monthly bills which included rent for their home located in one of the slums of north Mumbai. Through your generous donation, Vision Rescue was able to come to their aid, by providing monthly ration and nutritious snacks throughout the pandemic.

Hira who passed grade 12 and Ravi who passed grade 10 were determined to get age-appropriate quality education for their child, Aarav. Unfortunately, they could not afford the education they dreamt of for Aarav. Just then the Vision Rescue interns were in their slum community to conduct the yearly survey to enroll children into their educational program for the new academic year. Hira grabbed the opportunity and enrolled Aarav.

Aarav started Nursery in 2021 amidst the pandemic. Despite the challenge of online education, Aarav’s parents took a keen interest in helping him with his daily lessons. Each day his teachers would send videos of lessons along with worksheets and activities that he would complete and send back. While Aarav started his schooling journey in the Vision Rescue Beacon Learning Center (BLC), Hira enrolled in our online culinary vocational training. In June 2022 our BLCs started functioning offline and Aarav enrolled in Junior KG. He was happy to step into school for the first time with the starter kit provided to him with the help of your generous donations.

Aarav is a bright child who quickly grasps what is taught. “I like to study, and I also like to have fun. When I grow up, I want to join the army and help people,” he says cheerfully.  “We have benefited immensely from what Vision Rescue offers us. Education for our children, rations, medical and dental check-up’s, awareness programs, and help with finding jobs. The education our son receives is as good as the education in private schools that we have been dreaming of giving him,” says Hira.

Hira and Ravi take active interest in Vision Rescue activities in the community. Ravi who worked as a delivery boy is now looking for a higher paying job to afford a good formal education for Aarav. Hira is bright and ambitious. She hopes to use the culinary skills she has learnt, soon. Right now, she contributes to the family’s income by taking tuitions at home.

Most children like Aarav, who live in the slum, would have missed out on early childhood education during the pandemic if it were not for Vision Rescue teams who took education right into their homes, through online classes. Thank you, dear donors, for your continued support, even when the world was at a standstill. It was because of you that Aarav and many others could start their schooling on time.
