Huzaifah* lives with his illiterate parents and two older sisters. His father works as a daily wage labourer, tirelessly trying to provide for their family’s basic needs. Their small, cramped house is near one of Mumbai’s largest dumping grounds, where they often suffer from constant coughs, overflowing sewers, foul air, and thick smoke. In addition to living in such a harsh environment, another obstacle loomed over Huzaifah and his family: speech impairment.
All three children in the family, including Huzaifah and his two sisters, were diagnosed with a speech disorder, which made their lives even more challenging. Their parents couldn’t afford speech therapy and were heartbroken by their children’s inability to communicate effectively. However, they never lost hope and kept praying for a miracle.
In early 2022, our Case Officer (CO) met Huzaifah’s family and encouraged his mother to prioritize education as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty. As a result, Huzaifah was enrolled in Nursery at the Beacon Learning Center (BLC) in April 2022. However, he struggled to make friends and often sat alone in class. Sometimes, he would even miss classes.
To address this issue, our Community Case Counsellor (CCC) regularly visited the child’s family and counselled the mother on the importance of focusing on the children’s health and education. As time passed, Huzaifah became a confident and sociable boy who eagerly shared his school experiences with his mother. Now, Huzaifah happily attends BLC, embracing every opportunity to learn and grow.
Besides education and nutritional support, Vision Rescue offers healthcare services, including dental and medical check-ups. Vision Rescue’s medical team had made arrangements for Huzaifah to undergo a tongue operation. After the procedure, his speech and communication abilities improved significantly. Even Huzaifah’s two elder sisters underwent successful operations, enabling them to speak properly as well. Huzaifah’s parents expressed immense gratitude, saying, “We are forever grateful to Vision Rescue for giving our children the gift of speech.”
Huzaifah is currently in Junior KG and aspires to become a police officer. His mother has successfully completed our vocational tailoring course and is now eager to earn and support her family.
Thank you for being the guiding light for children like Huzaifah through your generous support and partnership. Your seemingly small contributions can transform lives and create a brighter future for those in need.
