Safina is the youngest of six children. Her parents are illiterate; her oldest sibling struggles with a physical handicap and the next three have dropped out of school over the years.

Safina’s future in education looked bleak too until she met our Vision Rescue community workers during a survey of her slum community.

Safina was enrolled into our nursery class and she happily began her life of learning. A few months in though, she began to miss classes frequently. Her community worker visited her home and discovered that Safina’s stomach was so bloated, she couldn’t even walk.

Her parents said that there was an insect in her stomach. They hadn’t yet taken her to a doctor. With counselling, Safina’s parents were convinced to get her examined.

Safina was admitted to a hospital referred to by our team and advised on an operation for which her parents didn’t have the money. That’s when our medical team stepped in once again, spoke with the doctors and they revised their stance.

Safina was put on medications and the operation was kept on standby. Remarkably, Safina’s condition improved. Her stomach returned to its normal size and she began coming to school again!

Her teacher says that she is regular in class now, and has even made up for the days that she lost because of her illness.

It is your generous gifts that have given Safina an education, sustained her in her studies despite difficulties, and helped her walk a path different from her family’s past. She and her family thank you from the bottom of their hearts!
