“I don’t like rain because when it rains, the place becomes so dirty,” says Sakshi*, a six-year-old girl. She doesn’t like how the roads get muddy and everything feels messy. The family lives in a rented ‘pakka’ (concrete) house, but like all illegal slums, there’s the constant fear of demolition, and with irregular income, paying rent remains a struggle.
Sakshi’s mother heard about BLC from neighbours, and although her two older children are in formal school, she decided to enrol Sakshi in BLC. Every day, Sakshi enthusiastically attends BLC. She enjoys the nutritious meals and the time spent with friends. When asked if she will miss school during the rain, she confidently replies, “No, no. I will not miss school at all. Even in the rain, I will go!” Her love for BLC is evident as she smiles and says, “I love BLC. I like my teachers and friends very much.”
Her mother proudly says, “I can see the difference in my child—how well she studies, remembers things, and even teaches her siblings.” The impact of BLC is not limited to Sakshi alone. Her mother, too, has completed the vocational tailoring course and now earns a small income by sewing clothes, a testament to the transformative power of education. Thank you, Vision Rescue donors, for stepping in to impact Sakshi and her family.
