Can you believe that 122 families have now set up simple, low-cost libraries in their homes, for the benefit of the kids in their slum community?!

This project started with an ideation meeting with our Community Champions and Interns in 4 slum communities. The concept was quite new to them as functioning libraries are a rare sight in the slums. But they were excited to explore this idea, as they recognised how impactful this could be on our children!

Our Champions and Interns went on to meet directly with parents and explain to them how these home libraries could set a good example for our children.

Many of the homes we work with struggle with alcohol or gutka addictions, and these home libraries could show children another way of living.

Our parents soon caught on to the other benefits too, such as improved language skills, preparation for academic success, bonding with children, increased concentration, imagination, discipline, and creativity

In short, they understood that a house with books in it has a long-term impact on building lifelong learners. And they got to work!

Not only did 122 families set up home libraries, but they also opened their space up for kids from other homes too!

We can’t wait to see the new generation of readers rising from our slum communities! Thank you for your donations that make these initiatives possible for our children!
