When we first met Dawood, he was playing and digging in the dirt with his friends. When we spoke to his mother about his education, she was hesitant.

“He’s too young for school now,” she said.

Dawood is the youngest of three children. While the first two study in a formal school. Their father, who is the sole earning member of the family, couldn’t afford to enroll Dawood in a school.

A few years ago, there had been a drought in their village with no food and employment for their family. Like many others, his father too, left their village for Mumbai, to earn a living. He started to find odd jobs to support his family. Later, he settled in one of Mumbai’s slum communities and started working on a construction site as a labourer.

Thanks to your support, Vision Rescue was able to enroll Dawood in our Beacon Learning Centre. Initially, Dawood didn’t show interest in studies. He would peep out of the window and run away to play on the streets with his friends.

After a lot of effort in counseling Dawood and his parents, he started coming to school with his mother.

Today Dawood participates in all the activities and is improving in his studies.

His mother Fatima too has grown with him. She first joined our focus group meeting as a curious parent and then went on to become our Community Champion.

When the lockdown happened in April 2020, the family had no money to meet their needs. Things became worse when his father’s leg was fractured.

That’s when your generosity reached Dawood, you provided them with groceries every month! Your help also reached out to Dawood’s father with timely medical assistance.

In these tough times, Fatima even volunteered to help our staff distribute groceries in her slum community.

Thank you for your support that has also enabled us to send Education Representatives to Dawood’s home to teach him during the lockdown.

Thank You for Reaching out with love.
