Engage and sustain over 500 children in Kalwa slum community in education for one year.

Kalwa Slum Community in north Mumbai is home to about 2900 families with over 5000 children living here. This is  the largest slum Vision Rescue operates in, and is expanding its boundaries daily with the influx of migrant workers from across India, dreaming of making a living in Mumbai. They bring with them their families including little children, who often end up dropping out of education because of the tough transition from village to urban living.

More commonly, many children aren’t even enrolled in formal education because their parents lack prerequisite government documentation such as Aadhar or Ration Card, or simply because the nearest municipal school to their slum community is too far to walk to, and parents can’t afford to pay for the daily commute on their daily-wage incomes. Still other children remain out of school because parents are illiterate and unable to fill in an admission form. For over 500 such children in the slum community of Kalwa, Vision Rescue is their rescue from illiteracy and exploitation. Support our efforts to engage and sustain children in this community in education by sponsoring the community.
