When Chahat’s mother was pregnant, her father moved to Dubai. He would rarely call the family and once she was born his calls completely stopped. He disconnected himself from the family and Chahat‘s mother was left to support and care for her child on her own.
When she turned three, her mother left for Bangalore in search of a job. She had no choice but to leave her daughter in the care of her mother.
Chahat’s grandmother enrolled her in Beacon school as she felt she needed education.
Today she says she couldn‘t be prouder of how much she has learnt. Chahat used to swear, wouldn‘t concentrate and spent her days on the streets playing. Coming from a broken family, in the midst of rejection it was hard for the young girl to understand her value.
Her grandmother‘s perseverance to show she was valued though, changed Chahat’s life. She not only feels loved but also knows that she is valued. She realises that because of education she now has the tools she needs to chase her dreams.
After coming to school, she now realises the importance of family too. Chahat‘s grandmother says that she now willingly assists her at home on returning from school.
