From 30 to 301!! That’s how much our Community Champions across four slum communities have grown in numbers in just the last four years. And yesterday, we took a special day just to thank them for the amazing work they voluntarily do to transform their communities every single day.

Each of these Community Champions are simply parents of our Beacon Learning Centre children, but they have a heart to serve their community and uplift their neighbourhood.

In just the last couple of years, here are a few of the incredible tasks they’ve accomplished for their community!

👉Delivered grocery kits and run community kitchens to provide for needy families during the pandemic.

👉Organised the ‘E-Shram’ Card Camp to ensure that migrant labourers can receive Government aid.

👉Organised a bank account drive to open bank accounts for community members.

👉Ensured pregnant women could access healthcare by helping them reach hospitals, get medicines, and deliver babies safely.

👉Organised monthly focused-group-meetings to create awareness about government schemes and healthcare benefits.

👉Deepened relationships between the community and Vision Rescue by referring community members to services provided by Vision Rescue.

At yesterday’s Community Champions Celebration Day Program, our founder, Mr. Biju Thampy thanked each one for their efforts, especially during the pandemic. “While everyone worked from home, you were our hands and feet,” he said.

For most of these 301 Champions, this was the first time they were getting to meet their counterparts from other slum communities across Mumbai. What a time of fun and celebration of changemakers it was!

THANK YOU for your support, encouragement and timely donations that have helped train, equip and empower these ordinary citizens to be agents of transformation in their communities!
