Oooh la la! The mothers of our Beacon Learning Centre (BLC) students danced away their blues to some foot tapping Bollywood tunes on Mother’s Day this year. “I have not danced for years,” said one mother,” while another said, “I have never celebrated Mother’s Day. I didn’t even know what it was!”
The prestigious Whistling Woods International (WWI) College, under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program ‘KHWAAB’ made this special event possible for 43 mothers who are a part of our Skill Development & Livelihood Training courses in the slum community at Mandala.
Pooja, KHWAAB’s leader, facilitated the two-hour program of fun and frolic. The mothers took time out of their schedules and made time to dance, play and celebrate. In a short message, Pooja told the mothers about the importance of ‘self-care’ so that they may be able to care better for themselves and their families. Pooja commended them for all that they have been doing daily, thanklessly and tirelessly. Whistling Woods distributed a box of yummy snacks and a take-away gift to each mother, appreciated her contributions, and placed value on her life. Last was the cake-cutting ceremony where the cake was made by our very own baking and confectionery students at the Vision Rescue Culinary Training Institute.
The Mother’s Day Program 2023 was an added incentive for mothers who are also students of Vision Rescue’s Skill Development & Livelihood Courses such as Beautician and Hair Care, Mehendi and Tailoring. These courses are conducted to up-skill the mothers of Vision Rescue’s Beacon Learning Centre (BLC) students and lead them to financial independence, with the larger objective to sustain their children in education.
We thank WWI and their KHWAAB team for making Mothers Day special for these lovely mothers!
This initiative by WWI, is just one more in a long series of initiatives the team has taken to partner with Vision Rescue and bless our beneficiaries. From 2018, they have hosted our Self-Help Group women at stalls during festivals in their campus, providing trainings in acting for the youth of our slum communities, organised exposure visits for the children of our BLC, donated two sewing machines for our tailoring unit, provided an educational fund of Rs. 50,000/- towards the education of 15 BLC children from a month, organising a book donation drive for the benefit of our School Support Program municipal school students, and so much more!
Thank you WWI and KHWAAB Team for your support towards Vision Rescue down the years!
