When a regular eye consultation costs Rs. 500 – Rs.1000 in private hospitals, families living in our slum communities often refrain from consulting ophthalmologists regularly.

This leads to many of them living with undiagnosed but serious eye disorders. They fear that even basic eye treatments and surgeries will set them back by a fortune!

Above this, the pandemic came with its own set of challenges; forcing these communities to struggle for basic necessities such as water and food. In this time, they found it even more difficult to access quality, affordable healthcare.

Our VisionRescue medical team has been stepping in to meet this need by periodically organizing free medical camps and health checkups for our children, their parents, and others in need in our target slum communities.

In association with Mumbai Eye Care, we organized an eye-checkup camp in each of our four slum communities in Mumbai.

145 people benefited from these free eye checkup camps. 16 people were diagnosed with Cataract, Posterior Capsule Opacification, etc, and were referred for surgeries that are now being conducted for them.

At VisionRescue we believe in providing quality support services for our children and their families to enable our Beacon Learning Centre children to sustain in their education.

In our 17 years working with children, we’ve seen children dropping out of formal education because their parents fall ill and are unable to work anymore. We’ve seen simple diseases lead to huge healthcare bills that overwhelm families and send them into debt, thus making older children enter the workforce to compensate.

It’s to overcome all these challenges that we strive to ensure that healthcare issues in children’s families don’t come in the way of their education Thank you for your generous support in providing quality healthcare services in these slum communities!
