When the pandemic hit the country in March 2020, Aditya’s family faced difficulties one after the other. His parents lost their jobs to the pandemic. To make the situation worse; Aditya’s father met with an accident and had to undergo surgery. They could neither pay the medical expenses nor buy basic groceries to sustain their six-member family.
Their minds were filled with these thoughts:
“How long will our children go to bed hungry?” “How long before we find work again?”
“What will happen to Aditya’s education?” “Will he ever get to go to school?”
Their plight came to the notice of our Vision Rescue Community Champions in their slum community. These Community Champions are parents of our Beacon Learning Centre children, in whom we have invested deeply over the last 3 years, training them to identify issues in their neighborhood and become changemakers in their own community.
Our Community Champions informed us of Aditya’s family’s struggles and their desperate need for immediate help.
Generous donors like you immediately stepped in with groceries every month for Aditya’s family; medical referrals and treatment for Aditya’s father and best of all: little Aditya was enrolled into our online Beacon Learning Centre in this new academic year. While thousands of poor children his age remain out of school because of the pandemic, little Aditya got to start his journey in education with us, right in the middle of the pandemic, right from his home!
His teachers say that Aditya is an intelligent and quick learner. In just a few months of classes, he’s learnt numbers, fruits, vegetables and is able to complete all our activities at home.
“During the lockdown, my husband met with an accident and he had to undergo surgery. He couldn’t go to work. We were already in need of groceries, and this accident happened on top of that. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping us this time.” says Aditya’s mother.
At this time, Aditya’s family was also being bombarded with rumors about the Covid-19 vaccination. On one hand, the family needed the vaccines to take public transport and reach potential daily-wage jobs, but on the other hand, they were afraid of the side effects of the vaccine. While the fake news continued to spread, our medical team stepped in to bust the myths and spread verified information about the coronavirus and the vaccination.
Aditya’s family could stand strong during the pandemic only because your donations helped them with groceries, education, medical aid, and awareness information at this time.
Thank you for opening the doors of education for little Aditya and supporting his family in their tough times!
