What dreams can a 3-year-old have when he wakes up in a flood-prone slum community, surrounded by garbage? For Amir*, residing near a nala (gutter) became unlivable during the rainy season, with floods making it hard for his family to keep their belongings safe. His father worked as a daily wage labourer, but the irregular work made it hard for the family to get by.

One day, Amir’s mother heard about Vision Rescue’s Beacon Learning Center (BLC) program. She felt it could be an opportunity for Amir to learn, grow, and escape the cycle of poverty. Hesitant at first but hopeful, she enrolled him in BLC. Little did she know, this decision would open doors to a brighter future. When Amir entered the classroom, he immediately showed excitement and curiosity. His eyes lit up at the sight of colourful books, new faces, and the welcoming environment. “He was eager to explore, asking questions, and jumping into every activity with enthusiasm,” recalls his teacher.

Vision Rescue gave Amir more than just education—we provided nutritious meals, health screenings, and a nurturing environment. “I never imagined Amir would come home with books and a medal,” says his mother. Today, Amir dreams of becoming a police officer. Thanks to our generous donors for making this change happen.
