Vision Rescue’s Skill Development and Livelihood Training program is a beacon of transformation, especially for the mothers and older sisters of Beacon Learning Center (BLC) students in the slum communities.
Initially, the program started with tailoring and mehendi courses and later evolved into nine courses ranging from fabric bag making to beautician services. These courses equip mothers and young women with diverse skills, enabling independence and opening doors to sustainable livelihoods.
The program empowers women with essential vocational skills in collaboration with NGOs and esteemed establishments. It allows women to lead financially independent lives. This collaborative approach ensures that graduates are not only equipped with practical skills but are also connected to real-world opportunities, bridging the gap between education and employment.
Smita Fernandes, Chief Mentor for Vocational & Livelihood Support, says, “They are dreamers who stand courageously in the face of every difficulty. These women deserve every chance and opportunity because they embody strength and power.”
Skill Training for Unemployed Youths
In collaboration with the Magic Bus India Foundation, we recently conducted vocational and professional skill training sessions for 20 unemployed youths in the Kalwa community. These skill training courses equip unskilled youths with the knowledge and expertise they need to secure employment opportunities. By providing them with the skills required in today’s job market, we are breaking the cycle of unemployment and opening doors to a better tomorrow.
Crafting Brilliance
In a 3-day sale at Nair Dental College, two women from our Skill Development and Livelihood Training program showcased a stunning array of handmade creations – bracelets, earrings, tote bags, tea coasters, notebooks, and keychains. The event not only boosted their confidence but also honed their sales skills. The feedback has been nothing short of fantastic! Visitors were impressed by our products, praising the skills and creativity of these empowered women.
Empowering Artisans
15 women embarked on our beautician course, while 9 eagerly joined the makeup program. After completing the three-month course, these aspiring beauticians and makeup artists are now set for a one-month internship. We’re thrilled to witness them acquire new skills, secure placements, and achieve financial independence. With the thriving health and beauty industry, we eagerly await our graduates to step forward, take orders, or even start their own businesses.
Thank you dear donors for your constant support and generosity in empowering these women and their families. Here’s to sustaining more children in education by empowering their mothers and other sisters.
